Psilocybin is a naturally occurring psychedelic compound found in certain species of mushrooms, commonly referred to as "magic mushrooms." When ingested, psilocybin is metabolized into psilocin, which interacts with serotonin receptors in the brain, leading to altered perception, mood changes, and sometimes profound spiritual experiences. It has been used for centuries in various cultures for ceremonial, spiritual, and recreational purposes.

Ballot Measure 109 (M109) is also known as the Oregon Psilocybin Services Act. It was voted into law by Oregonians in November 2020. It is codified in Oregon Revised Statutes in ORS 475A. M109
directs Oregon Health
Authority (OHA) to license and regulate
psilocybin products and the provision of
psilocybin services.
Oregon is the first state in the U.S. to create a
regulatory framework for psilocybin services.
Psilocybin is a schedule 1 controlled substance under federal law.
There are many choices for facilitation education here in Oregon. Each school is unique. I can personally reccomend https://subtlewinds.org/ and https://emeraldvalleyinstitute.com/

Psilocybin can help people access and release repressed emotions, opening a pathway to process deep-seated traumas and bring clarity to emotional challenges. This emotional release often brings a sense of relief and peace after a session, allowing for a fresh, positive outlook. By releasing trapped emotions stored in the body some people report an improvement in physical pain
A psilocybin-induced shift in consciousness often involves a profound change in how an individual perceives themselves and the world. During this experience, people frequently report a sense of heightened awareness, where ordinary thoughts and emotions feel deeply intensified or take on new meanings. Boundaries between self and surroundings may feel blurred, creating a feeling of interconnectedness with others, nature, or the universe.
This shift can allow individuals to step outside their usual patterns of thought, viewing emotions, memories, and beliefs from a fresh perspective. Many describe it as if they’re observing themselves from the outside, which can lead to powerful insights about personal issues or long-standing habits. This expanded state of mind can help people confront suppressed emotions, recognize harmful thought patterns, and explore new ways of thinking, often leading to lasting emotional clarity and personal growth.
Studies show psilocybin enhances both neuroplasticity and neurogenesis. Potentially making it a powerful tool for mental adaptability and growth. By fostering new neural connections, it helps the brain more easily adopt healthier thought patterns and behaviors, supporting individuals in breaking free from deeply ingrained mental habits. Additionally, psilocybin promotes neurogenesis—the growth of new neurons—by activating serotonin receptors that boost brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), a protein essential for neuron growth and survival. This process strengthens the brain’s ability to build new, healthier pathways, encouraging flexibility and resilience. Such effects can be especially beneficial for those experiencing depression or anxiety.
Psilocybin can break negative thought loops by disrupting the brain's Default Mode Network (DMN), which is heavily involved in self-referential thinking, rumination, and habitual thought patterns. In people experiencing conditions like depression, OCD and anxiety, the DMN often becomes overactive, leading to repetitive, self-focused negative thoughts that can feel inescapable.
When psilocybin downregulates DMN activity, it weakens the brain's tendency to get stuck in these loops, allowing individuals to experience thoughts and emotions without rigid attachment or overanalysis. This break in habitual brain patterns can open up space for new perspectives and a more flexible mindset, possibly helping individuals reduce the intensity and frequency of negative loops and foster a more positive outlook.
